Pick up a paddle for the first time!

Duration

2 Hours

About

Sessions are designed for over 18s, under 18's must be accompanied by a parent / guardian over 18, who is entirely responsible for their engagement, behavior, and safety. By the end of the session, we would like you to feel (and be) confident that you could competently and safely practice your skills and enjoy paddleboarding independently.

What will the session include

Whilst the sessions will depend on the group and conditions on the day, being tailored to the individual and group needs, things covered include:

1) The basics of paddleboarding - different paddle positions, how to steer and turn, self-rescue and rescue others

2) Assessing conditions and planning a paddle - weather, tides, legalities

3) Kit knowledge and checks - learn about your board and the range of boards available, how to set up, safety check, and maintain them.

4) Local knowledge - top tips and safety measures for NW Norfolk's coast

5) Action plan for further paddling (where can you go, what can you do next!)

What to bring

Please wear clothing suitable for getting wet! This can be a wetsuit if you have one, or active wear and layers.

Bare feet are fine, but plimsolls / water shoes are also good and provide a little extra protection from stones and shells!

Please bring water as a 'must' and a snack as a 'nice to have'.

Sunscreen - a must!

Hat / sunnies - a good idea weather dependent. If you are going to wear sunglasses, a strap is ESSENTIAL - they come flying off when anyone falls in

A waterproof bag is a good idea (amazon has a selection of great and cheap dry sacks with a shoulder strap) As these will enable you to carry a spare jumper / jacket incase you get chilly, and your water / snacks etc.

We don't advise bringing phones and valuables as dropping them in the sea makes very sad faces - and we hate that. But if you do wish to take pictures, please make sure that you have appropriate waterproof cases, bags leashes etc. There is a likelihood of you getting wet, and your valuables need to stay dry.

Post session, you are likely to need a towel, something to change into in case you are wet, and maybe a drink and some food!
