National Martial Arts Committee of Great Britain
Taekwondo is equally attractive to both male and female, with most of our current clubs being an even split between both genders. Furthermore, taekwondo is an activity that is appealing to children of all ages.
We are proud of the amount of parents that join in with their children in the evening classes. This means that taekwondo not only improves the health and activity of the children, but of the whole family, leading to a family lifestyle change that our members have expressed has been hugely beneficial.
The educational value of Tae Kwon Do is being increasingly recognised by many Countries outside of Korea. Countries, including China, Indonesia, Canada and the USA are starting to adopt Tae Kwon Do as a regular class at schools as part of their curriculum. As proven by numerous studies, Tae kwon Do training has significant beneficial educational effects on children at the stage of personality forming and emotional vulnerability. It is not merely a sport but encompasses excellent cultural values that can not be learnt from textbooks. It teaches children about justice, morality, respect, cooperation and to accept the rules of fair play. Through such learning, physically and psychologically, we can see personal development and self-enhancement.
Taekwondo offers numerous benefits to participants, below we have listed just a few of the things taekwondo can help with;
- Fitness, coordination, balance, flexibility, agility, speed
- Maintenance and achievement of a Healthy weight
- Confidence
- Mood
- Discipline
- Respect
- Behaviour
- Concentration
- Self esteem
