Free woodland courses for 16-35 year olds

The Green Light Trust are running FREE EARTH woodland courses to help improve future prospects, build confidence and skills, overcome personal mental health issues and generally meet new people, enjoy nature, relax and have fun in the forest!

Our Young Futures programme works in a person-centred, holistic way, using nature to engage individuals in activities within our woodlands. Activities are arranged to suit everyone’s capabilities and interests; helping individuals overcome any barriers around learning, skills-building, personal development and accessing employment. Our sessions are delivered 1 day per week (10am to 3pm) and activities will be facilitated by 2 of our experienced delivery staff. We complete all risk assessments and organise transport for our participants too.

A cooked lunch is provided cooked on the campfire. A typical day could be building a fire, a walk and talk in nature, a lovely campfire lunch, and last week we made a mallet each from the wood we found in the forest. We had two new teenage participants who both stated “we were only going to come for one session as we didn’t think we’d like it much, but it was great and we’ll definitely be back next week”. It is a beautiful thing to see people grow in confidence, really enjoy the courses so much and truly reap the benefits of that shared experience in nature.

It would be fantastic if you could share these details with anyone who would benefit from this wonderful opportunity. I have seen first hand the magic of this environment really change people’s lives and perspective around how they view themselves and the world around them. I am so passionate about what we do and the value of this offering especially from an improved mental health perspective.

We also offer tailor made coaching support to help our participants move onto new challenges, sign up for more courses with us, volunteer or anything else they may be interested in and need help from us to access – this is all part of the service we provide. We now have staff members at Green Light Trust who joined a course, then volunteered and now are GLT staff members delivering courses to others which is fantastic.

The Green Light Trust has been working in Suffolk very successfully for many years and we have now received funding to deliver these opportunities to the Norfolk region too which we are obviously very excited about.  Just check out: www.greenlighttrust.org to find out more.
